Known as an etcher, lithographer and illustrator, Pennell was also close friends with fellow artist James McNeill Whistler. He taught at the National Academy and the Art Students League of New York City.

This etching is signed and dated lower right in the plate, not hand signed. This impression was published in Germany and has the "Original Radirung von J.Pennell" in the lower edge of the plate. The image measures 10 3/8X8 inches, printed on a warm toned wove type paper, very fine condition. The image appears in the Wuerth catalog as image number 52. Nice use of plate tone in the forground.
