The Road Home
1829-1913, Canadian/American

Oil on panel, 9 x 11 inches, 1874, signed and dated lower right, in a period gilt frame. This is a wonderful tonalist view of a horse drawn hay wagon bound for home in the bleak cold of winter. This painting is by well known Canadian painter Francois B. De Blois. His formal art education includes studies in Europe (c.1870) under Charles-François Daubigny (see AskART) probably in Paris or Auvers sur Oise a suburb to the north of Paris; and under Vincenzo Marinelli (see AskART) in Naples, Italy.


Atwood Pond
1903-1996, American

This richly toned wood engraving of Atwood Pond done by Herbert Waters measures 7 x 9 1/4 inches, printed in an edition of 45, with wide margins on very light weight paper. It is pencil signed, titled and numbered. Atwood Pond is located in the Campton area of the White Mountains where Waters and his wife lived for many years. Born in China of missionary parents, he graduated from high school in Shanghai and then moved to the US to pursue his art career. After college at Dennison University he taught at UNH and the Holderness School and became an artist for NH's WPA project.
