Painting

A Cool Quiet Rook
1855-?, American

This landscape measures 12 5/8 x 9 1/8 inches and is signed on the reverse in pencil as "E. A. King", housed in a period frame. We are attributing this painting to Elizabeth A.(Bessie) King who studied at the Chandler School of Art in Detroit and was a member of the Atlanta Artists Association.

Print

Man With Clasped Hands
1922-2000, American

This woodcut by Leonard Baskin measures 2 x 3 inches and was published in 1949. This image is not shown in the Fern and O'Sullivan catalogue but we think it is listed as #35. After serving in the Navy during WWII, Baskin began his career as a printmaker in the late 1940s, beginning with simple linocuts, but quickly progressing to dramatic wood engravings, then later etchings and lithographs.

Drawing

Treetops

A fine sketch by Dexter Dawes measuring 10 3/4 x 7 1/2 inches on medium weight drawing paper. A small unfinished sketch of trees is on the reverse. Dawes spent many summers in the Marlboro, NH area drawing and painting the incredible natural beauty that surrounded him.
