Oil on canvas, image size 21 x 26 1/2 inches, ornate period gilt frame, signed l.l. "Max Weyl". Born in Germany but brought to the US as a child, Weyl became one of the most popular landscape painters of the Washington D.C. area. In 1879 he traveled to Europe and was greatly influenced by the Barbizon style and for the next two decades his landscapes of the D.C. area won him renown.

Rosenberg was a successful artist and architect; he studied at several prestigious Universities- The University of Oregon, Eugene, the American Academy in Rome, the Royal College of Art, London, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and continued to practice both art and architecture throughout his long career.
