This landscape by Dexter Dawes measures 15 x 20 7/8 inches, is signed and dated, 1937. There are some indications that it was painted on a rainy day. Dawes was born in Englewood, NJ and went on to study at New York City's Art Student League. He summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs and paintings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club.

Pencil signed by Howard Pyle, l.l., and William Bicknell, l.r., The Bibliophile Society engraved seal in red ink, l.c., "Copyright Bibliophile Society 1903", u.l., remarque above Bicknell's signature. This print is from a portfolio of five etchings from an edition of 302 sets etched by William Bicknell, after a painting by Howard Pyle, published in Boston by the Bibliophile Society in 1903.
