The Old Mill
1833-1894, American

This is a lush, finely detailed landscape by Henry W. Kemper, painted in 1865, signed and dated on the lower left corner. Oil on canvas, 16 x 14 inches, in the original period gilt frame. Kemper paints a very peaceful image of this long forgotten mill. In this verdant summer scene, a traveler approaches the mill from the darkness of the forest just as the sun peeks through passing storm clouds.

Print

Over the Tree Tops
1862-1951, American

This rare 1915 Benson etching measures 5 x 7 7/8 inches. It is signed, numbered and titled on the lower margin. In the Ordeman catalogue it is #84. Printed on Normandy vellum, only 54 proofs were made of which fifty are signed and numbered. Benson was a very successful painter and a member of "The Ten" along with Childe Hassam and J. Alden Weir, before he began the sporting paintings and etchings for which he is most widely known. He was a founding member of the Boston Guild of Artists and a long time teacher at the Museum School in Boston.
