This is a beautiful painting of Mt Monadnock by Dublin, NH artist William Preston Phelps. Oil on canvas, 10 x 18 inches, c. 1890s, signed "W P Phelps" in the lower left corner, in a period gold frame. Known as the "Painter of Monadnock", Phelps lived most of his life in Dublin, NH, with the exception of several years he spent studying art in Europe. He painted many scenes of the area landscape of farms, fields and forests, most of which were set against the backdrop of the majestic Mount Monadnock.
