Landscape with Sheep
1809-1889, Belgian

This is a beautiful painting of a ewe and her lambs in a summer meadow, with mallard ducks swimming nearby. It is painted with oils on panel and measures 5 1/2 x 7 5/8 inches, 1860, signed and dated lower right, in a period gilt frame. There is an inscription in French on the back of the board, written in the artist's hand, but we have been unable to decipher it. Van Severdonck was a Belgian artist known for his small scale landscapes and images of farm animals, especially sheep.

Etching on parchment after Weldon, image size 16 1/8 x 25 1/4 inches, published by Klackner, 1883, pencil signed by both Weldon and Ferris. The gallery has two impressions of this print, one of which is on paper.
