A Winter Scene - Blue Hill, MA
1860-1950, American

A beautiful original landscape, c. 1905, by the master watercolorist, Dodge Macknight. This image shows MacKnights' ability to create movement by his variety of brushstrokes, his ability to leave the white of the paper and his playful, well placed strokes to suggest the rugged frozen riverbanks edge with its attached, muted reflections. A truly unique winter New England landscape. Dodge MacKnight was a post-Impressionist who's work is equaled to John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer.
