This subtle but expressive oil by the Canadian painter, Philip Surrey measures 21 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches. It is signed by the artist on the lower right. Philip Surrey was a urban landscape painter known for his nightscapes and the street people who inhabited them. He was concerned with the "gregarious nature and the solitude of humanity" often using these themes in his images. This c. 1940's image of Miss Phyllis Planta, is framed and comes with a period newspaper article about her life.
