Sailing off the Maine Coast
1928-, American

A fine image of sailboats along the Maine coastline, painted in watercolor on paper, sight size 12 3/4 x 16 1/2 inches, signed lower left, framed. Laurence Sisson was born in Maine and after serving in Japan in WWII, studied at the Yale Summer School. He became known for his seascapes of the New England coast as well as images of the American southwest.

This lithograph by Julius Tanzer measures 15 x 11 inches and is pencil signed and titled on the lower margin. Tanzer was an artist for the Works Project Administration in New York. His remarkable lithographs depict the grit and beauty of everyday life in Depression era New York City. Many of his prints are included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
