Watercolor on paper, sight size 11 x 14 3/8 inches, c. 1930s, signed lower left, framed. Carroll Bill was an artist and architect, studying at Harvard Architectural School. He was a member of many artist's associations, including the Boston Architectural Club, the Boston Society of Architects, the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters, the New York Society of Watercolor Painters, the New York Watercolor Club and the Springfield Art League. A superb, richly inked original etching with drypoint by American sporting artist Frank Benson. The image size is 7 7/8 x 11 7/8 inches, published in 1928 in an edition of 150 proofs on Whatman laid type paper, pencil signed. This image is # 283 in the Ordeman catalog. Frank Benson is widely considered the founder of the American sporting etching. In his catalog of Benson's prints, Ordeman quotes John Taylor Arms, who said of Benson, "[He] has achieved the distinction of founding a school- that of the modern sporting artist.
