Painting

Punts at a Quiet Landing
1815-1877, French

Oil on panel, 11 x 16 inches, cradle backing, signed lower right, in an ornate period gilt frame. A very well regarded artist of the French Realism movement, Emile Lambinet was born in Versailles and studied with Horace Vernet and John Baptiste Camille Corot. Both of these artists greatly influenced Lambinet's mature style of painting, as can be seen in this image, with the exacting details and bright atmosphere of Vernet and the subtle color palette with just a few accents of saturated color of Corot.

Print

Drawing

The Old Peep Toad Mill
1854-1934, American

Watercolor on paper adhered to mat board, 8 x 10 1/4 inches, signed on the back and inscribed "Old Peep Toad Mill / North S[cit]uate, RI / Aug. 5, 1914." The town name is hard to make out, but there is an old Peep Toad Mill in East Killingly, Connecticut, not far from the Rhode Island state line. Hays had a studio in Providence, RI, and is known for painting bucolic subjects.
