Painting

Mountain View
1872- c.1950, American

This landscape by Dexter Dawes measures 15 x 20 7/8 inches, is signed and dated, 1937. There are some indications that it was painted on a rainy day. Dawes was born in Englewood, NJ and went on to study at New York City's Art Student League. He summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs and paintings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club.

Print

A Pair of Florals
1900-1971, British

This is a beautiful pair of floral still life color etchings by Elyse Ashe Lord. The image size of each is 9 x 7 inches, edition of 75, c. 1940s, pencil signed and numbered, in matching Asian styled period gilt frames, likely the originals. Elyse Lord lived her entire life in Britain and although her work shows a strong Asian influence, she never actually traveled the continent. Her inspiration instead came from Chinese literature, artwork and her own imagination.
