The Homestead
1848-1923, American

William Preston Phelps was a plein air painter. In 1876, he travelled to Europe and began studying at the Royal Academy of Art in Munich. He later moved to New York and then back to Europe with his friend William Meritt Chase.

Framed oil on canvas, 24 x 36 inches. Signed in the lower left. The subject is likely his family homestead in Chesham, New Hampshire.

Boulevard Saint Martin in Winter

This is an atmospheric original etching and aquatint in color by Tavik Frantisek Simon, titled "Boulevard Saint Martin in Winter". The image size is 12 1/4 x 14 1/2 inches, published in 1914, pencil signed, with a blindstamp lower left. T. F. Simon was born in Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as Asia and the U.S. He lived in Paris from 1905-1913, then returned to Prague to teach at the Academy of Fine Arts.

Watercolor, image size 6 x 8 1/2 inches. McAuliffe was active in the late 19th century and produced public works especially in Everett, Mass: Roman Catholic Cathedral, St John's; Parlin Library. His specialties were maritime and religious subjects.
