It is painted with oils on panel and measures 5 1/2 x 7 5/8 inches, 1860, signed and dated lower right, in a period gilt frame. There is an inscription in French on the back of the board, written in the artist's hand, but we have been unable to decipher it. Van Severdonck was a Belgian artist known for his small scale landscapes and images of farm animals, especially sheep.
