A remarkable original etching of Notre Dame Cathedral, this image measures 17 3/4 x 21 5/8 inches, 1897, pencil signed and dated. Auguste Brouet was born to a poor family in Paris in 1872, and as a teenager worked as an apprentice lithographer and lute maker before attending the Ecole des Beaux Artes under the tutelage of Gustave Moreau. He was then introduced to etching by Auguste Delatre, and became one of the most successful etchers of the early 20th century in France.
