Paul Daniel Ortlip was a well known landscape and portrait artist from Fort Lee, NJ. Born into an artistic family, he studied in NY and Paris. After serving in the military he became the participating artist for NASA, the official US Navy Artist and was first commissioned by the White House to paint portraits of the astronauts. Later, he also did a portrait of John F. Kennedy. His works are housed in the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum and the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library.

The Dragon Ship

This is a very rich color etching with aquatint by American artist John Taylor Arms, titled "The Dragon Ship". The image size is 12 3/4 x 9 7/8 inches, created in 1922 in an edition of 150. This image is #121 in the Fletcher catalog and is pencil signed by the artist along with an inscription, "To my friend Esther Schiott, with my compliments. John Taylor Arms-1929". According to the Fletcher catalog, this etching is from Arms' 'Ship Series #2' and is based on a watercolor by Arms that is now in the collection of the Library of Congress.
