Mt Desert from Bar Island

This is a beautiful sundrenched scene of Mt Desert Island, Maine, by American Impressionist Frank Rehn. Oil on canvas, 17 x 27 inches, 1874, signed and dated lower left, with a label from the Gallery of Chas F Haseltine, Philadelphia on the back, in an ornate period gilt frame. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Frank Rehn studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and went on to become a successful painter, primarily known for his land and seascapes.


Spanish Jewelry

A finely detailed original etching, this image measures 5 x 3 1/4 inches, published 1925, Spanish Church Series #6, 2nd State, cat: Fletcher-171, pencil signed and dated. John Taylor Arms was one of the foremost American printmakers of the 20th century, known for his exquisite compositions and exacting details which gave his etchings a very realistic, almost photographic appearance. He specialized in images of European architecture and cathedrals, such as this ornately carved Spanish doorway.

This pencil drawing by Jack Levine measures 5 1/2 x 5 inches. It is pencil signed on the lower right. Levine was best known for his satires on modern life and political corruption. Born in South Boston into a large family, his drawing abilities were apparent at an young age. At 14 he entered a painting program at Harvard and a few years later was employed in the Works Progress Administration. His lower class childhood was often a subject of his paintings and he became known for "telling it like it is".
