French Girls in a Field
1863-1950, American

This lovely oil on canvas by the New England artist Joseph Lindon Smith measures 12 x 9 inches, title and artist inscribed on the back, housed in a 19th century gilt frame, 1894. Smith was a founding member of the Dublin Art Colony in Dublin, NH and lifelong friends with the artist Frank Benson and Isabella Stewart Gardner. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Academie Julian in Paris.

Etching, image size 5 3/4 x 7 1/8 inches, 1919, most likely an early artist's proof, retouched stain just below image and a reinforced broken plate mark at two corners, pencil signed, dated, and titled.
