French Girls in a Field
1863-1950, American

This lovely oil on canvas by the New England artist Joseph Lindon Smith measures 12 x 9 inches, title and artist inscribed on the back, housed in a 19th century gilt frame, 1894. Smith was a founding member of the Dublin Art Colony in Dublin, NH and lifelong friends with the artist Frank Benson and Isabella Stewart Gardner. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Academie Julian in Paris.

Ducks Alighting
1862-1951, American

A 1921 etching by the artist Frank Benson measuring 5 7/8 x 4 1/2 inches, pencil signed, cat: Ordeman-207, edition of 369, plate made for the Brooklyn Society of Etchers for distribution among its associate members. Frank Benson was a founding member of the Boston Guild of Artists and a long time teacher at the Museum School in Boston. In 1912, at the age of 50, Benson began his etchings and drypoints, mainly of wild fowl which he depicted with expressive lines and rich toning that exquisitely captured the life and energy of the wild birds.
