Landscape with Sheep
1809-1889, Belgian

This is a beautiful painting of a ewe and her lambs in a summer meadow, with mallard ducks swimming nearby. It is painted with oils on panel and measures 5 1/2 x 7 5/8 inches, 1860, signed and dated lower right, in a period gilt frame. There is an inscription in French on the back of the board, written in the artist's hand, but we have been unable to decipher it. Van Severdonck was a Belgian artist known for his small scale landscapes and images of farm animals, especially sheep.

The Curving Canyon, New York
1895-1975, American

This is a great New York etching, image size 8 5/8 x 5 3/4 inches, 1929, cat: Chamberlain-86, pencil signed and numbered below the image, titled in the lower margin. A rich impression on a grey toned laid type paper with ample margins and deckled edges. Samuel Chamberlain studied architecture at MIT, but interrupted his studies to serve in France during WWI. After the war, Chamberlain worked as an architectural draftsman in Boston before leaving the US to travel throughout France and Europe.

A very fine sketch of a stand of maples by the artist, Dexter Dawes. Summering in Marlboro, NH, he is known for his lithographs, drawings and paintings of Mt. Monadnock and surrounding views. This image measures 11 x 7 5/8 inches and is done on a lightweight paper.
