Early Morning on the High Seas

This remarkable oil on canvas was painted by noted American marine artist Frank Vining Smith, c. 1930. The canvas measures 30 x 36 inches, and is signed in the lower right corner, in a very fine modern gilt frame. Frank Vining Smith was born and raised on Cape Cod Massachusetts and had a strong affinity with the ocean from a very young age. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston under Frank Benson, Philip Hale and Edward C. Tarbell, then at the Art Students League of New York.

Overland Trails to California

This wood engraving by Barry Moser is one of 25 from his "Gold Rush" series. Published in 1985 in an edition of 350, it measures 7 x 4 inches and is pencil signed by the artist on the lower margin. This series portrayed gold mining activities from America, Africa and Australia. Moser, from Tennessee, became a graphic artist and printmaker studying under Leonard Baskin and Jack Coughlin.
