"L'optique" Peep Show

A rare early French genre painting depicting a traveling vendor with his peep show. A unique country setting of a mother and her children viewing a display titled "Le Vrai Jesus". This work done circa 1820's is unsigned but suggests the work in style and subject of Louis Leopold Boilly,(1761-1845). The painting has been lined and has some areas of inpainting, mostly the bottom edge and upper right. The painting may have been reduced in size. Period gilt frame. Oil on canvas measuring 30 x 25 inches, the overall frame size measures: 41 X 36 inches.
