Photo, silver gelatin print, image size 10 3/8 x 13 1/2 inches, c. 1950, original photograph, artist stamp on back. Hand studied law at New York University but his true love was of trains and photographing them. Hand traveled the world photographing railways for the more than fifty-five years and in that time his work was published widely in railway periodicals, books and magazines including "Train" magazine published in the 1950's.


Cabin by the Fjord
1842-1914, Norwegian

This is an incredibly detailed, atmospheric Norwegian landscape of a small cabin at the edge of a fjord, the distant hills fading into a soft morning mist. It is painted in oil on panel, 11 x 16 inches, 1871, clearly signed "A Rasmussen 71" in the lower right corner, in an ornate period gilt frame.


Across the Garden
1872- c.1950, American

This lithograph titled "Across the Garden" by Dexter Dawes measures 12 x 14 3/4 inches and is pencil signed on the lower margin. Dawes was born in Englewood, NJ and went on to study at New York City's Art Student League. He summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs and paintings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club.
