Watercolor on paper, 3 3/8 x 4 5/8 inches, signed in ink lower left. Housed in a period frame, possibly original to the painting, but recently rematted with archival materials. An old label on the back gives the title and location and is also signed by the artist.

The Holystoners-Bound for Haiti
1901-1981, American

Etching, drypoint, image size 9 7/8 x 11 7/8 inches, 1935, pencil signed l.r. "Philip Kappel". Selected for "Fine Prints of the Year", 1936, pl.74. The image was made on the Columbia Line's Bogota or Columbia. The Haitian crew used soft volcanic tufa to scrub down the wooden decks. The bulldog, center, was the vessel's mascot.

This pencil/pastel drawing by Dexter Dawes measures 24 1/4 x 18 1/2 inches and is dated "July 30, 1927" on the lower right corner. Dawes was born in Englewood, NJ and went on to study at New York City's Art Student League. He summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for much of his subject matter in his drawings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club
