A very fine Rockport scene by Anthony Thieme, this oil on canvas measures 8 x 10 inches, c. 1935, signed "A Thieme" in the lower right corner, framed. One of the most popular artists associated with the Rockport School, Anthony Thieme was born in Rotterdam, Holland. His early training in fine art was with George Hackler at the Royal Academie of Fine Arts in the Hague; he later studied at the German Academy and with Italian masters Garlobini and Mancini. In the 1920s Thieme emigrated to America and after spending some time in NYC, fell in love with the area around Cape Ann, Massachusetts.

This is a very fine atmospheric etching of fishermen's houses along the Canadian coastline, with two small children playing on a boat in the foreground. The image size is 11 3/4 x 18 3/4 inches, published in 1881, cat: Schneiderman- 64, signed and titled in the plate. Stephen Parrish was one of the leading American etchers of the late 19th century, known for his atmospheric images of the rugged New England and Nova Scotia coastlines. This etching is one of Parrish's finest prints; in his 1886 book 'Etching in America', J.R.W. Hitchcock wrote, "Nothing that Mr.
