A self-taught etcher who became one of the best portrait etchers in art history being elected into the Royal Society of Painter - Etchers and Engravers in 1921.

This lovely oil on canvas by the New England artist Joseph Lindon Smith measures 12 x 9 inches, title and artist inscribed on the back, housed in a 19th century gilt frame, 1894. Smith was a founding member of the Dublin Art Colony in Dublin, NH and lifelong friends with the artist Frank Benson and Isabella Stewart Gardner. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Academie Julian in Paris.
