Painting

A Sunlit Path
1837-1908, American

Oil on canvas, 20 x 14 inches in a 25 by 18 1/2 gold period frame. Because this has only a partial signature we are only able to attribute this work to Alfred Bricher. Upon cleaning of the painting, a partial signature was revealed in the lower left. The technique and composition also is very similar to many well known works by this artist. There is an area at the lower edge of this painting which has been inpainted but not the signature...The frame appears to be the original one. We feel the setting of this work might be from Lake George N.Y.

Etching, image size 6 3/8 X 14 9/16 inches, printed in 1942 by Charles White in an edition of 150, 2nd state proof, numbered "II", cat: Fletcher-370, pencil signed and dated. This atmospheric etching is a great example of the delicate lines and precise detail for which Arms was known. This image won several awards in the early 1940s; the Mrs. Henry F Noyes Memorial Prize for best print at the 27th Annual Exhibition of the Society of American Etchers, New York, N.Y.
