C. 1920. Pencil signed and editioned, number 128 in an edition of 150. Plate measures 5 5/8 x 5 3/4 inches on 10 1/2 x 10 1/2 inch wove type paper. The artist's composition and sparing use of lines in the background draw the viewer along the path of the figures, and out of the frame to their mysterious destination.

Canadian Construction

This contruction scene by the Canadian artist Dorothy Stevens measures 9 7/8 x 9 7/8 inches and is pencil signed. Stevens was not only known for her etchings but was also an accomplished painter, portraitist, illustrator and art teacher. Born in Toronto in 1888, she studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and at the Academie Colarossi in Paris. During WWI she raised money for the war effort by donating a series of etchings depicting home-front subjects. Her prints were among the best produced under the program.
