Painting

Cabin by the Fjord
1842-1914, Norwegian

This is an incredibly detailed, atmospheric Norwegian landscape of a small cabin at the edge of a fjord, the distant hills fading into a soft morning mist. It is painted in oil on panel, 11 x 16 inches, 1871, clearly signed "A Rasmussen 71" in the lower right corner, in an ornate period gilt frame.

Print

Welcome!
1900-1971, British

A very fine original hand colored etching by British artist Elyse Ashe Lord, this image measures 15 7/8 x 13 3/8 inches, c. 1940s, edition of 75, pencil signed, numbered and titled. Elyse Lord lived her entire life in Britain and although her work shows a strong Asian influence, she never actually traveled the continent. Her inspiration instead came from Chinese literature, artwork and her own imagination. Her unique style uses fine drypoint lines and delicate, yet vibrant colors to create images that that have a serene, almost dreamlike quality.

1808-1878, British

This is a very grand watercolor by noted British artist Joseph Nash (1808-1878). The sight size of this painting is 26 1/8 x 18 3/4 inches, it was painted in 1846 and is signed and dated in the lower right corner. Joseph Nash studied art and architecture with Augustus Charles Pugin, becoming known for his finely detailed images of British architecture, from cathedrals to castles and manors. He would very often place a group of people in the foreground of his compositions, in a way that brought life and energy to the architecture, as can be seen in this image.
