Etching with aquatint, image size 19 1/2 x 15 inches, 1903, pencil signed and notated "Epreuve Unique en Noir," meaning that this is the only proof printed in black ink before the plate was faced with steel and the edition of 65 was printed. Robbe studied at the Academie Julien and the Ecole des Beaux Artes, becoming a master of the aquatint medium. He developed much of his own aquatint techniques, which enabled him to create his uniquely painterly, richly colored images.
