Herrick was a well known artist in Westmoreland, NH, specializing in plein air landscapes and seascapes of New England. He was a member of the Copley Society of Boston, the Connecticut Academy of Arts and the North Shore Art Association. This dynamic image of crashing surf was most likely painted near Rockport, MA.
Designed by the artist for the family's 1944 Christmas card, done on lightweight paper. It measures 7 1/4 x 8 3/8 inches. Dawes spent many years in the Marlboro, NH area drawing and painting the incredible natural beauty that surrounded him.
