Children's Battle
1819-1886, French

A lovely oil on canvas depicting children playing war games. The image is unsigned but we are attributing this painting to the French artist, Pierre Edouard Frere. Sight size measures 10 x 7 7/8 inches and is housed in a period gilt frame measuring 13 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches. Frere was known for his images of children, usually of the lower classes, experiencing the joys and struggles of their very young lives.

This 1926 etching by the American artist, John Taylor Arms, measures 10 3/4 x 9 7/8 inches, pencil signed and dated, also called "The Cathedral of Notre Dame, From the Lower Town", edition of 100, from his French Church Series #8, cat: Fletcher 181, printed by Frederick Reynolds. This etching won the "John G. Agar Prize, Fifth Annual Exhibition by Living American Etchers, National Arts Club, New York, N.Y." in 1927.
