Painting

Portrait of a Young Woman
1838-1924, Hungarian

This is a remarkable portrait by Hungarian artist Ignaz Frankel Ingomar. Oil on canvas, 21 1/4 x 19 1/2 inches, 1908, signed and dated in the lower left corner, the original heavy rosewood frame. Born in Budapest, Ingomar studied art in Pest, Vienna and Antwerp, then settled in Paris where he lived for over 30 years. He was known for his classically styled portraits, which he exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon. In 1895 he returned to Hungary, showing his work at the Salon Nemzeti in 1908.
