A Country Road at Twilight
1833-1927, American

This is a fine Barbizon inspired landscape by American artist William Parsons Winchester Dana. Oil on canvas, 11 x 17 inches, 1909, signed and dated in the lower right corner, in a period gilt frame. Dana was born in Boston and as a young man spent some time at sea before traveling to Paris to study at the Ecole de Beaux Artes. He became known for his seascapes and images of the French landscape, which he often painted in a luminous softly lit style, greatly influenced by the French Barbizon school of painting.
