Gathering Pond Lilies

This is a beautiful original oil painting by American Impressionist Albert Babb Insley. It measures 16 x 24 inches, painted c. 1880, signed on the lower right. This painting comes in the original gilt frame with the title and the artists' NYC studio address inscribed on the stretcher. Insley was a successful artist from an early age, earning his first commissioned painting at the age of 14. He went on to study with Jasper Cropsey and George Inness, and was heavily influenced by the French Barbizon school as well as the Impressionists.

Known as "the French Whistler", Leheutre switched from painting to printmaking after he saw Whistlers work. Member of the group of Nabis, Post-Impressionist avant-garde artists who set the pace for fine arts and graphic arts in France in the 1890's.

This pencil drawing by Jack Levine measures 5 1/2 x 5 inches. It is pencil signed on the lower right. Levine was best known for his satires on modern life and political corruption. Born in South Boston into a large family, his drawing abilities were apparent at an young age. At 14 he entered a painting program at Harvard and a few years later was employed in the Works Progress Administration. His lower class childhood was often a subject of his paintings and he became known for "telling it like it is".
