Painting

Lake in the Mountains
1813-1891, American

Oil on canvas, 20 x 30 inches, c. 1875, signed "SL Gerry," l.l, in what appears to be the original gilt frame. Samuel Gerry was a self-taught artist known for his majestic mountain landscapes, especially of the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Although he didn't have much formal training, he was greatly influenced by the work of Thomas Cole and A. B Durand, as well as some artists of the European schools. In the 1840s, Gerry was considered the leader of the White Mountain School of landscape painters.

Print

Nina
1874-1947, French

A truly magnificent portrait by Edgar Chahine, titled "Nina." The image size of this etching is 12 5/8 x 8 5/8 inches, published in 1923, pencil signed by the artist, framed. Chahine studied at the Academia Di Belle Arti in Venice and then at the Academy Julien in Paris. He was a very well respected artist of the ‘Belle Epoch’ era, winning many awards and honors for his work, including a gold medal at the Paris Salon. However his prints and paintings are hard to find as many of them were destroyed in a fire at his studio in 1926 or in a later flood in 1942.
