A Pair of Rockport Scenes
1888 - 1954, American

A great pair of New England harbor scenes by Rockport artist Anthony Thieme. Both paintings are oil on canvas, 8 x 10 inches, c. 1935, both signed "A. Thieme"in the lower right corner, in matching frames. One of the most popular artists associated with the Rockport School, Anthony Thieme was born in Rotterdam, Holland. His early training in fine art was with George Hackler at the Royal Academie of Fine Arts in the Hague; he later studied at the German Academy and with Italian masters Garlobini and Mancini.

The Piper
1869-1954, American

This is a beautiful original woodblock in colors by American artist Bertha Lum. The image size is 9 1/2 x 13 3/4 inches, 1916, pencil signed, dated and numbered 61. Bertha Lum studied art and design at the Art Institute of Chicago and in 1907 traveled to Japan where she studied the art of wood cutting with master print maker Bonkotsu Igami in Tokyo. Throughout her life Lum traveled between American and Asia living for years in China and in California.
