New England Farm in Spring
1848-1923, American

This is a luminous springtime landscape by New Hampshire artist William Preston Phelps. Oil on canvas, 12 x 18 inches, c. 1890s, signed in the lower right corner, in an ornate period gilt frame, with a label from the Godwin Gallery. Known as the "Painter of Monadnock", Phelps lived most of his life in Dublin and Chesham, NH, with the exception of several years he spent studying art in Europe. He painted many scenes of the area landscape of farms, fields and forests, many of which were set against the backdrop of the majestic Mount Monadnock.

Old Maple

A very nice pencil drawing of an old maple tree by the Marlboro artist, Dexter Dawes. It measures 10 1/4 x 7 7/8 inches on a sheet of medium weight drawing paper. "Ask ?" is written on the l.l. Dawes was born in Englewood, NJ and went on to study at New York City's Art Student League. He summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs and paintings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club.
