Painting

St. John's Spire, Hartford, Connecticut
1822-1909, American

This is a very rare early view of Hartford, Connecticut. Oil on tin, 6 1/4 x 8 inches, c. 1860s, in a period 19th. C. gilt frame. An inscription in pencil on the back reads, "St John's Spire, Hartford, Conn". Although this is unsigned, we attribute this landscape to Charles DeWolf Brownell, whose style is very similar. It is well painted with very fine brushwork and details.

Print

Horseshoes
b. 1911, American

Chiaroscuro woodblock, image size 7 x 5 inches, 1937, pencil signed and dated. As is typical with this artist, he hand signed his images on the paper window mat rather than the sheet itself.
