Landscape with Sheep
1809-1889, Belgian

This is a beautiful painting of a ewe and her lambs in a summer meadow, with mallard ducks swimming nearby. It is painted with oils on panel and measures 5 1/2 x 7 5/8 inches, 1860, signed and dated lower right, in a period gilt frame. There is an inscription in French on the back of the board, written in the artist's hand, but we have been unable to decipher it. Van Severdonck was a Belgian artist known for his small scale landscapes and images of farm animals, especially sheep.

Woodblock print by Utagawa Kunisada measuring 14 x 9 5/8 inches, signed and sealed, l.r. and l.l. Kunisada was a trendsetter in the art of the Japanese woodblock print. Known for his kabuki and actor prints, he also did a number of bijin-ga (prints of beautiful women) prints. Kunisada was the most popular, prolific and financially successful designer of ukiyo-e woodblock prints in 19th-century Japan.

Summer Meadow

"Summer Meadow" by Dexter Dawes measures 12 x 9 inches. Dawes summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs, drawings and paintings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club.
