A lovely oil on canvas depicting children playing war games. Unsigned, canvas size measures 10 x 7 7/8 inches and is housed in a period gilt frame measuring 13 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches.

This is a very dramatic triptych wood engraving, the overall image size is 6 3/4 x 9 3/8 inches, 1977, pencil signed. A verse accompanies the images "I threw away the memory of the lash... Yawning hells of time... Small fields where children wait..."

Hudson River Docks With New York in the Distance

Paul Daniel Ortlip was a well known landscape and portrait artist from Fort Lee, NJ. Born into an artistic family, he studied in NY and Paris. After serving in the military he became the participating artist for NASA, the official US Navy Artist and was first commissioned by the White House to paint portraits of the astronauts. Later, he also did a portrait of John F. Kennedy. His works are housed in the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum and the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library.
