Apollo and the Python
1557-1620, Italian

This is an extremely rare original engraving by Italian artist Agostino Carracci (1557-1602) titled "Apollo and the Python". The image size is 9 3/8 x 13 3/8 inches, sheet size 9 7/8 x 14 inches, state I/III, published c. 1589-1592 in honor of the marriage of Grand Duke Ferdinand I and Christina of Lorraine. This is an early state before the lettering was added for the published state, on a very early laid type paper with margins of 1/8 to 1/4 inch.


White Pine
1872- c.1950, American

This drawing by Dexter Dawes measures 21 1/4 x 14 1/2 inches and is dated "July 7, 1929" on the lower margin. Dawes was born in Englewood, NJ and went on to study at New York City's Art Student League. He summered in Marlboro, NH surrounded by beautiful gardens with views of Mount Monadnock which became the inspiration for many of his lithographs and drawings. He belonged to a number of associations including the National Arts Club
