This is a very grand watercolor by noted British artist Joseph Nash (1808-1878). The sight size of this painting is 26 1/8 x 18 3/4 inches, it was painted in 1846 and is signed and dated in the lower right corner. Joseph Nash studied art and architecture with Augustus Charles Pugin, becoming known for his finely detailed images of British architecture, from cathedrals to castles and manors. He would very often place a group of people in the foreground of his compositions, in a way that brought life and energy to the architecture, as can be seen in this image.


The Japanese Gates of Tori in Kyoto, Winter

This is a beautiful etching in colors of winter in Japan by Czech artist Tavik Frantisek Simon. The image size is 14 3/4 x 11 5/8 inches, 1928, edition of 195, pencil signed, framed, Novak cat: 478. T. F. Simon was born in Bohemia, now the Czech Republic. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as Asia and the U.S. He lived in Paris from 1905-1913, then returned to Prague to teach at the Academy of Fine Arts. Simon was an exceptional painter and printmaker, and is best known for his atmospheric color etchings and aquatints.
