The Whalemen
1875-1962, American

A beautiful seascape by the American artist, Gordon Grant. Canvas size is 28 x 36 inches, oil on canvas, c. 1940, signed l.l., titled on backing, owned by the same family since 1971. Gordon Grant was born in California. At 13 years of age he traveled alone to Great Britain on a sailing vessel, around Cape Horn, for his education. This experience stayed with him for the rest of his life. He is most widely known for his marine paintings and fine prints.

Sunset Palace Lodge
1903-1984, American

This is a very fine, richly inked etching with beautiful plate tone. The image size is 6 x 7 3/4 inches, published in 1938 in an edition of 100, pencil signed, dated and editioned. This etching is in pristine condition printed on a heavy weight wove type paper with wide margins and deckle edges, with a small blindstamp in the lower right margin.

The Blacksmith Shop

This charcoal drawing by John(Jack)Fenton measures 10 x 14 inches and is pencil signed on the lower right corner. In this image, Fenton depicts local characters gathering at the blacksmith shop to catch up on daily events. Fenton was a native of New York and studied at Columbia University and the New York School of Art. He became a painter, illustrator and teacher with his works exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago.
