Oil on canvas, image size 21 x 26 1/2 inches, ornate period gilt frame, signed l.l. "Max Weyl". Born in Germany but brought to the US as a child, Weyl became one of the most popular landscape painters of the Washington D.C. area. In 1879 he traveled to Europe and was greatly influenced by the Barbizon style and for the next two decades his landscapes of the D.C. area won him renown.

A richly inked artist proof, this etching measures 11 7/8 x 7 1/2 inches, and was created in an edition of 76 in 1921, and is number 201 in the Hardie catalog. This image is signed, titled and dated within the plate and hand signed and inscribed "A" in ink below the image. This etching was originally sold by Kennedy & Co in 1922 and comes with the original label. McBey was one of the leading figures of the 'British Etching Revival', known for his atmospheric land and seascapes.
