Cabin by the Lake
1854-1927, American

This is a luminous scene of a cabin by a still lake with the glowing colors of the setting sun lingering in the sky, casting blue shadows over summer landscape. Pastel on paper, sight size 12 3/4 x 17 inches, c. 1900, signed in the lower right corner. This pastel comes tastefully displayed in a period maple frame. Clarence Braley was a Massachusetts artist who specialized in pastel and watercolor landscapes. He was a member of the New Bedford Art Association and exhibited his work at the Boston Art Club and the Art Institute of Chicago. (M)

Grouse on a Pine Bough

This is a beautifully detailed original etching by American artist Aiden Lassell Ripley. The image size is 8 7/8 x 11 7/8 inches, published c. 1930, pencil signed and titled, framed. Ripley was a very successful 20th century sporting artist. He studied at the Boston Museum School under Phillip Hale and Frank Benson, then spent several years traveling throughout Europe. He became quite well known for his landscapes and sporting scenes, and also worked throughout his life in wildlife and endangered species preservation.
