Hudson River Docks With New York in the Distance
1926-2007, American

Paul Daniel Ortlip was a well known landscape and portrait artist from Fort Lee, NJ. Born into an artistic family, he studied in NY and Paris. After serving in the military he became the participating artist for NASA, the official US Navy Artist and was first commissioned by the White House to paint portraits of the astronauts. Later, he also did a portrait of John F. Kennedy. His works are housed in the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum and the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library.

North Avenue Bridge - Baltimore

This 1927 etching by the American artist, Gabrielle De Vaux Clements measures 11 x 17 1/8 inches, pencil signed, hard ground with drypoint, on medium weight paper. Clements studied with Thomas Eakins at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and etching with Stephen Parrish before moving to Baltimore where she lived and taught for over 15 years. It was there that the Bendann Galleries commissioned her to portray the city in a series of nine etchings.
