Fall Landscape with Sheep
1848-1923, American

A great New Hampshire landscape by William Preston Phelps, this painting measures 16 x 24 inches, oil on canvas, c. 1900, signed in the lower right corner, in a beautiful modern gilt frame. Known as the "Painter of Monadnock", Phelps lived most of his life in Dublin and Chesham, NH, with the exception of several years he spent studying art in Europe. He painted many scenes of the area landscape of farms, fields and forests, most of which were set against the backdrop of the majestic Mount Monadnock.
